The Epitome of a Multifaceted Musician

The cream always rises to the top and exceptional talent can thrive in any environment or circumstance. So it goes without saying that the multi-talented, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Frederick Keeler aka JFK or otherwise known as the other half of the electronic music duo extraordinaire  MSTRKRFT (pronounced “Master-craft”)  and bassist of Canadian dance-punk duo Death from Above 1979 as well as a host of other side projects; have more than just prospered in all of his musical endeavors—he helped revolutionized them!

Born on November 11, 1976, JFK’s musical journey began in Toronto wherein he joined and played in numerous pop punk outfits. His most notable early project was known as Black Cat #13. After Black Cat disbanded, he formed Femme Fatale and recorded 3 EPs, which his good friend Al Puodziukas produced. The two later formed MSTRKRFT in 2005 and as cliché as it may sound, the rest is history.

Meanwhile, his other band Death from Above 1979 was formed much earlier; almost fortuitously and out of necessity in 2001 when he showed his roommate Sebastien Grainger 3 of his recorded bass and drum instrumental demos. Grainger liked the demos so much that he decided to sing on them. They then looked for a drummer to complete their lineup but since no one was available, Grainger opted to do the drumming himself. Subsequently, the band toured extensively for 4 years before announcing their breakup in 2006 through their website. The band then reunited in 2011 and have been touring and producing records since then.

Through it all, JFK has expertly and deftly juggled both bands and even found time to do some side projects. His ever expanding body of work and list of accomplishments include remixing songs for The Kills, Annie, JusticeBloc PartyAyumi HamasakiMetricWolfmother, Kylie Minogue and Katie Perry among others. He also composed and produced songs for the Mortal Kombat reboot in 2011. I guess if you’re as creative as him, you’ll never run out of work!

Who knows what JFK decides to do next but whatever it is, it’s gonna be ingenious just like all of his previous works. Click on the link below to find out how much JFK or MSTRKRFT slays! Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
