More often than not, it’s so much harder to classify and compartmentalize music into different genres than identifying good music from crap. When a song catches your attention, you’d immediately know that it’s good music regardless of which genre it belongs to. This is because music is and should always be an auditory and emotional experience rather than a stylistic undertaking. It’s substance over style when it comes to art, and music is no different.
Such is the case with ‘Breakforce One’ (Rene Kuschnick), a 21 year old musical force of nature from Aalen (BaWü), Germany who I had the pleasure of interviewing. Speaking exclusively with ‘Bassfuck’, he had this to say about the musical genre conundrum and where he fits in it.
“I hate genre chat!”, he confessed. “But there’s a load of quotes from other people who listen to and enjoy this stuff (his music), they probably know best.”
Skimming through the comments that he enumerated, it’s easy to see why he feels that way. Some refer to his music as ‘Dance and Bass’, ‘Reggae-jungle’, ‘Happy Hardcore’ and ‘Breakcore’ just to name a few. Having said that, though the classification of his style may have been varied, all those who commented really dig his music, with one even calling it inspirational.
Well there you go, the verdict has been handed down. It’s inspirational, heavy and face-meltingly great! Genres be damned!
It’s important to note that for an artist who musically delivers everything but the kitchen sink, ‘Breakforce One’ uses a relatively straightforward yet functional gear.
“1 laptop, held together with sellotape, a mouse, power outlet, KRK6 monitors and headphones …And a total disregard for unnecessary hardware! That’s literally it btw. No joke.”
His straightforward approach to making music is also reflective of his equally straightforward goals and aspirations for the future. When asked where he sees his career moving forward, he jokingly said:
“Well right now I’m looking for a job so depends who gives me one…Oh wait did you mean Breakcore as a career choice? OK well in that case, releasing my album finally to high praise and hopefully releasing on some of my favourite labels.”
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that his goals are perfectly achievable. It’s not a question of if but when. It’s just a matter of time. Where he goes from here is totally up to him.
Here’s hoping that he continues to make genre-bending, mind-blowingly awesome music. In the meantime, click on the links below and experience the musical force of nature that is ‘Breakforce One’.
May the force be with you!
